WEEKLY GREEN UPDATE

Sugar-pink geraniums are out in the cool of the woodland beds, along with pale pink flowers on the brambles. The lavatera is in flower in the northern border next to some bright red Salvia. There are cream flowers all over the viburnum in the eastern border and plate-size chestnut coloured bracket fungi on the tree in the southern border. 19 06 26

Welcome to the Friends of Barnsbury Square Gardens website –

Do come over and enjoy this lovely space any time with family, friends, or neighbours and watch the progress of the seasons. In this fantastic urban green space you can watch the sunlight streaming through the trees, walk around, listen to the birds, sit and read, study, paint, look at the plants, or browse through our free community book swap – the bookcase is on the brick shed wall.

There are all kinds of ways you can help wildlife, the green environment, and your local community by volunteering in Barnsbury Square with FOBSG; new volunteers are always welcome!  We need help with work on the green environment, running events and on our committee team.  FOBSG volunteers are often around during the day, and regularly on Saturday mornings from 10am.  Come over and have a chat, and we can answer any questions you might have. You’re welcome to make yourself a free tea or coffee in the hut kitchen – it’s usually open when the volunteers are in. McDonalds in Chapel Market Islington also help us out with volunteers sometimes as do the charity Goodgym. You can follow us on instagram at barnsburysquare_official and we have a GoFundMe page if you’d like to make a donation.  Barnsbury Square Gardens is a Site of Interest for Nature Conservation and FOBSG are 2025-6 Green Flag Community Award winners. FOBSG work in partnership with Islington Council’s Environment and Regeneration teams.
